If your car insurance policy contains the collision coverage, then you need to notify a carrier about the accident and they will handle it from that point. If you have a deductible, even if the accident was the other driver’s fault your insurance company will initially reimburse you the property damage amount minus the deductible. And then they will go after the other drivers insurance to collect the deductible and once they do that, you will get reimbursed. If your car insurance policy only contains liability coverage. How much car insurance is needed?

Today, I will answer the following question: How much and what type of car insurance cover should I get? The minimum liability car insurance requirements in New York state is $25,000. If you carry those limits, This means that if you injured someone in a car accident or if you’re injured by an uninsured driver your insurance will cover only up to $25,000. Personally, I think that $25,000 in insurance is not enough. My recommendation is that in New York everyone should carry a minimum of $100,000 liability policy and $100,000 of uninsured and underinsured coverage.
